Saturday June 27, 10 am Pacific/1 pm Eastern
Join me as we create pages for a handmade “Words of Advice” book. The compositions for the pages are an exercise in collage and white space…yes, the dreaded white space. At the end of class, we’ll bind the book into a simple structure.
Sample pics are from the book I made back in 2011. We’ll make it again using our current supplies and techniques.
Supply List:
Substrates:
- 3 pieces of watercolor paper (mine will be 7”x10”)
- 1 piece of fabric like canvas, muslin, etc, 8”x11”. The fabric will be our book cover. If you don’t have a fabric stash, how about using an old tea towel? We’ll be gluing onto this fabric, so a woven fabric is best (i.e. not terry cloth or knitted t-shirt material).
- Papers to rip up like old book paper, dictionary paper, collage papers, junk mail, etc.
- White cardstock for stamping
- Collage tissues (sub: any printed tissues, deli paper, etc.)
- NOTE: this book can be ANY size.
Adhesives & Tools:
- Double-stick dry permanent adhesive like ATG by Scotch, double-stick Scotch tape, Tombow MonoAdhesive, Scor-Tape, Sookwang, etc. 1/4" or 1/2" is fine
- Bone folder is nice to have, or use an ink pad or old gift card
- Awl or paper piercer
- Needle and cord like twine, string, yarn, etc.
- Your favorite stencils (I cannot give you specific stencils I will use until closer to class)
- Your favorite stamps (I cannot give you specific stamps I will use until closer to class)
- Tool kit like scissors, paint brushes, mini blending tool & foam for stenciling, rag or wipes
Paints & Mediums:
- DWM gesso or SUB the gesso you have
- DWM Acrylic paints in your favorite colors (I cannot give you specific colors I will use until closer to class), or SUB the acrylics you have
- Ultrathick gel medium or SUB heavy gel medium or glue stick
- Stabilo All pencil (if you don’t have one, you can do without)
- Scribble Sticks
- Optional: Gloss Sprays

You can comment, ask questions, and interact with other students. You can also share your work in the group.
