Thoroughly enjoyed my class at Art Unraveled. It was Book of the Old World, taught by Lisa Renner. The prep work that Lisa did for this class was astounding…she even threaded the needle onto the waxed linen thread! This is the project–it was a blast to do. We cut the pages out of a book & kept the covers/spine. We had pieces of burlap coated with wallboard joint compound that we crackled and painted. Then we applied different colors of beeswax over the paint & adhered the burlap to the book covers. [Sidenote–I must, must get myself an encaustic iron!!] The pages are watercolor paper that we collaged a bit, used oil pastels for a resist, and then coated with the Adirondack Tim Holtz spray inks. So fun. When the pages were dry, we sewed them into the book. The spine of the book is covered in a piece of leather.
