Last night on Paperclipping, Noell asked me about my family and creativity…I come from a very creative family. I must have been too hyped up on diet Coke because I totally spaced that my mom is a scrapbooker (a really good one!), a quilter, and a seamstress. I should have mentioned that! And my dad is a leatherworker and a photographer. I realized it's hard to be interviewed…you don't know what you're saying half the time.
I love how my parents encouraged all of us to develop our talents. We all had music lessons, dance lessons. I can remember my dad giving my sister photography books for Christmas because she was interested in it, and art supplies, too. Just last Christmas my parents gave one of my sons a leather notebook portfolio & paper, because he loves to write stories. I love that…I love how they see a talent or interest and encourage it in a simple, thoughtful way.
It makes me think about how I am encouraging creativity in my own children. Maybe I need to cut out some of the video game gifts and focus on gifts that develop talents. I need to rethink gift giving, for sure.
Thanks for having me on Paperclipping, Noell…and I apologize for my dorkiness. Ugh!
