Grunge book…

I thought I'd share a little art journaling process that I enjoy. Those of you who have taken my Art Journaling 101 or 102 classes know that I don't like to waste ink or paint. If I have extra paint on my palette, I put it on another surface to use later. Same with ink…if there's surplus ink on the stencil, I turn it over and press it somewhere. The results are typically unpredictable and deliciously grungy.

I bought a small bound journal from Mister Art. It's about 5.5" square and the pages are decently heavy. I started wiping my excess paint & ink on its pages, and the result is a grungy, impulsive journal that has no real rhyme or reason. I'll wipe paint on top of paint, paint on top of ink, do whatever I feel. I don't stop & think about it, I just do it. I don't worry that these pages aren't composed nicely because, well, they're just leftovers. The process is very freeing and sometimes serendipitous. Sometimes I like how the random elements come together, and I add text & other images to the page.

I call it my "grunge journal."
