I’m teaching at Artistic Journey in early October…

Artistic Journey is a top-notch event hosted by Maya Road and the Crafty Scrapper in Waxahachie, TX (approximately 30 minutes south of downtown Dallas). I was lucky to teach at this event last year, and we had SO much fun. Joining me are the incomporable Lisa Pace and the talented Angella Peardon (coming all the way from Australia!). Here are the details (including peeks of Lisa's & Angela's projects). Join us!

Anyone up for “Out of the Journal” in August?

Last year we did "Out of the Journal" for the whole month of August. Anyone game to do it again? The idea is to stretch yourself out of your journal by working on canvas, and exercise your creative muscle. The canvases I made last year are pretty bad (heh heh), but I like them. And I'm excited to do it again!

Here are the rules…

1. Try to do one canvas a week. Any size, any type. It's okay of the canvas isn't "done." Just try!

2. Each week, watch for my post about my canvas, then link up your blog post/flickr gallery/picasa album to my post. I'll summarize them all into a list & add them to my post.

3. Enjoy the creative process!

I hope you'll join me!

Moody girl in my Dylusions journal…

I am having a blast working in my Dylusions journal. I've been a painting fool lately, and I love it. Here's a moody girl…I started with one of my new stencils, Boulders, and some modeling paste. You can see the large circles barely peeking through the painting.

Lookee…I’ve got a new Dylusions journal!

I know, I know! I can't believe it, either. I'm so excited that I have a new Dylusions Creative Journal, designed by the one and only Dyan Reaveley. I love Dy for so many reasons. She's a good friend, a fab artist, and a creative genius. So many people have a hard time finding a good journal for art journaling…well, look no further. This is the one. Great size, alterable cover, pocket on the inside to hold your collage goodies, and tons of heavyweight pages for creating amazing pages. Love. I've been fondling it gently since I brought it home from CHA…today is the day I start spilling out my soul into it.

Yaaaay

Sharing some more work from my classes…

Linda Clancy from Oklahoma took my Introduction to Art Journaling class. Isn't her page lovely? So ethereal and pretty. Here's what she had to say:

I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed your class last weekend!
Wanted to share a picture I made with what I learned.

The wings are definitely Baby Thighs!!!!! [Dina's Note: if you've taken classes from me, you know what Baby Thighs are!] I used acrylics and modeling paste for the angel and heart. The wings were cut with the Tim Holtz angel wings die. And liking bling I of course I added some stickles! Thanks again for sharing your knowledge! Linda Clancy

Heidi Paul emailed me, too…here's her encaustic tag book. She explains,

Hi Dina Star,

I saw the amazing encaustic book by your insane new BFF (hilarious Scrapiverse guy!)!) on your blog and thought I'd share the ones that my Mom and I did at your Arizona class back in February at The Occasional Artist.  I stalk your blog every day and it was such a treat (okay, dream come true) to be able to fly in from Washington state and take your class with my mom.  Couldn't believe there were only 8 of us in that tiny room.  You were totally real, fun, funny, generous and all around awesome.  We learned a lot in that short time and were thrilled with our results.

My mom, Susan, is beyond a birding fanatic, so her theme, of course, was birds.  So is everything else in her life.  I used to tease her because she would only use what I called 'safe, Eddie Bauer colors'  aka. BORING)  I love to see how far she has come with this bright, crazy colorful book.

I wasn't sure if I wasn't going to like making an "encaustic" book.l  I just imagined big chunks of junk everywhere.  I was so wrong.  I loved the process and I love the results.  Our family is originally from Hawaii, so I tend to gravitate toward the bright, tropical colors and themes.  I even stamped on pages from an old Hawaiian-English dictionary.  Thanks for that technique and all your fabulous inspiration!

Thanks for sharing what you do.  Thanks for being an art journaling goddess.
Wish I lived closer,

Thanks, Heidi, for sharing! I do love seeing pictures of what people make in class. It's so fun! I won't always be able to share all of them on my blog, but I will try to share them periodically. I am always amazed at what students in my classes create. It's very inspiring for me to see…I think I get more out of seeing their artwork than they get from me!

Blog banner collection…

I was looking through old picture folders & came across some of the first blog banners I ever used for my blog. I got a kick out of seeing them…and it gave me the itch to create a new one!
