Monday linkage…

I’m walking around in a post-weekend haze…it’s kind of like the morning fog that doesn’t burn off until noon. So if I don’t make sense, blame it on the fog.

Some Monday linkage:

Art Unraveled Report…

Thoroughly enjoyed my class at Art Unraveled. It was Book of the Old World, taught by Lisa Renner. The prep work that Lisa did for this class was astounding…she even threaded the needle onto the waxed linen thread! This is the project–it was a blast to do. We cut the pages out of a book & kept the covers/spine. We had pieces of burlap coated with wallboard joint compound that we crackled and painted. Then we applied different colors of beeswax over the paint & adhered the burlap to the book covers. [Sidenote–I must, must get myself an encaustic iron!!] The pages are watercolor paper that we collaged a bit, used oil pastels for a resist, and then coated with the Adirondack Tim Holtz spray inks. So fun. When the pages were dry, we sewed them into the book. The spine of the book is covered in a piece of leather.

Not much to report….

I get some much-needed creative time tomorrow…I’m taking Book of the Old World at Art Unraveled. Lately my days are just lessons in endurance. The kids go back to school on Monday (ha-lle-lu-jah), and despite their protests I think they are all looking forward to having something to do. I haven’t scrapped or painted in days & days…I’m sure tomorrow will invigorate me.

Another reason why Legos rock…

So, I was listening to Alien Ant Farm’s cover of Smooth Criminal, and Curt asked what that song was, so I went into a long pop-culture history lesson about Michael Jackson what he was like when he really was the King of Pop and how he shocked the world into submission with his Thriller album, and Curt still had this blank look on his face so I looked up Then & Now pictures of ole Mike (praise Google), and in the research process came across this Lego version of the Thriller video. The picture quality is crummy, but it’s worth watching just to see Lego zombies dancing…

Reason #27 why it’s great to have a spouse who works for an airline…

So Friday at 5:30 I mentioned to Reed that my parents were in Tahoe. Reed says, "I wonder what time the next flight is?" He looked, it was at 7:30 p.m. I said to the kids, "Do you want to go to Tahoe?" Two out of three said, "YEAH!!!" So I talked the 3rd one into it, we hastily packed a few things, and we were standing at the gate at 6:55. Yeah, baby. We spent Friday night in Reno and headed to Tahoe in the morning for a fun day of swimming, pine scented air, and cool breezes. It was so nice to be out of the heat for a bit. We love Tahoe. I took my camera but didn’t take many pictures…just wasn’t in the mood.

Sweatin’…

Cut the boys’ hair today and did a bunch of dishes by hand (2-year old dishwasher is broken AGAIN…I have vowed I will never, ever buy another Kenmore again). I’m sweatin’…it’s hot & humid here. I cranked down the air one degree but felt guilty since last month’s a/c bill was $507. Yes, you read that right. So it’s too hot to scrap, too hot to do much but wait for the dishwasher repair guy to come & ream us. Well, it’s not too hot for some fun linkage…
