I love autobiographical art journaling. For me, examining who I am, how I am feel, why I feel how I feel, and where I want to go in the future is an integral part of what I do.<\/div>\n

For this page, I started with a picture of me. I printed it out on my black & white laser printer, cut it out, and used my Gel Medium to glue it onto a watercolor page (pre-coated with gesso, of course). I over-painted the photo loosely. Then I added background colors, painted the flowers, and added journaling.<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
I think over-painting photos is a great way to practice painting faces. I like to use a dry brush. I keep my paint layers thin so I don't obscure the image underneath. I follow the photo to paint dark paint in the dark areas and light paint in the light areas. If I paint over something that I want to define better, I use the Stabilo All pencil to outline it and "bring it back" (i.e. nose, mouth, eyes).<\/div>\n

I mixed a flesh tone with bits of Cheddar, Magenta, and Ocean. That gave me a pretty brown. Then I added white to lighten it a bit. My favorite shadow color is Umber. It makes fantastic shadows!<\/div>\n
