Something a bit different…

I was laying in bed journaling (I often take crayons and a waterbrush to bed!), and my oldest fella and I were drawing coyotes and foxes. One of them made it onto this journal page. He's colored with Neocolor II crayons. I think he looks more like a doggie than a fox, because of his rounded nose.

The face of truth…

When I was teaching at Art Unraveled early this month, I was talking about taking your drawings and integrating them into a finished art journal page. I showed the class a drawing in my journal, and I had them give me suggestions for what to add to it. They had great suggestions, and I did all of them! They had me add the word to her forehead, add the yellow in her hair, paint pink around the drawing, and add the white stenciling.

A few samples I made in class…

I was teaching at the lovely Stamping Details in Poway, CA this past weekend, and I made these faces while teaching a class there. I had students in that class who were completely skeptical of drawing. But, they trusted me, and they listened, and they boldly drew and grew. By the end of class, they were drawing great faces, it was amazing!

I am not a teacher who can teach you to draw technically accurate, perfectly realistic faces. But I can teach you do do what I do…and what I do is draw scribbly faces that are fun and expressive.

I'm teaching an all-day face class at Whim-So-Doodle in early Sept, come join me…plus I have 4 other fun classes there.

Oh, how I love ink….

This, my friends, is why I love Dylusions ink. Swoon. It's in my Dylusions journal and I used Dylusions ink, a bit of pink spray paint, and some of my new stencils from The Crafter's Workshop, and one of Tim's new stencils.

Not sure what I'll do next to it, but I love it!

Beginnings of a painting…

Started this today. I actually seem to have started TONS of things today, and finished nothing. That's just the way it goes sometimes! Lots of wonderful Dylusions ink sprays here, and a tiny bit of acrylic paint.

One of my faves from Art Journal Freedom…

As you can imagine, I was in an art whirlwind when I created all of the pieces for my book, Art Journal Freedom. Today I was looking through some computer folders and ran across "Book Shots." Right before I mailed all the artwork to the publisher, I hastily took pictures of all the pieces. I do have all of the art back now, and I need to properly photograph it. In the meantime, though, I thought I'd share one of my favorite artworks from the book. Here it is, complete with its note to the publisher about where to put it in the book:

Fave

I actually love ALL the art I made that day. They all have a similar look and feel.

The process of writing Art Journal Freedom was intensive and rewarding. Guess what I'm starting to work on now? 🙂

Flying dragonflies…

Another page that started as a class demo. I did these pages quickly, sometimes even working upside down as I am holding my journal up for the class to see. Have you ever worked on a page upside down?

Bit of journaling…

Started this one as a class demo. I decided to leave the mark across the face. It's very curious. Don't you wonder what her story is?

Done in my Dylusions journal.

A few things…

  • I got to spend yesterday in a class by Andrea Matus deMeng. Had tons of fun, was a great experience to paint and collage and learn her process. My piece isn't finished yet, but I will definitely share when it is. It's a 5-foot scroll!
  • I know many of you have been patiently waiting for me to finish a new online class. I am 2/3rds done with a new one…a face drawing/face painting class. I'm hoping to finish it next week.
  • I taught a face drawing class at Art Unraveled on Saturday. Most of the class didn't have any drawing experience, and by the end of the class they were seriously rocking it out. Seriously.
  • Here are a couple faces from my doodle book…have a good Tuesday!

Page with lots of motion…

I love all of the motion and expression in this page. I just adore powerful, scribbly lines.
