Yahoo, it's here, it's here!
I want to share with you what I wrote in the introduction to this book. It captures the essence of the book…
The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt. –Sylvia Plath
“I can’t draw.”
“I can’t layer.”
“I can’t use my own photo, I’m not photogenic.”
Do I need to go on? I hear these objections, and more, all the time. Sometimes we hold ourselves back, we tell ourselves we can’t create the art we long to create. We think we can’t draw. Or we don’t know how to layer. We don’t like to use our own image. We’re afraid to step out of the art journal and make other projects.
Let’s stop the self-doubt and negative self-talk and open ourselves up to possibility and progress. I want you to be open, to be willing to make art you don’t like. I want you to practice every day, to be devoted to your art-making. Together we’ll face common artistic fears, validate those fears, and then overcome them.
By facing and acknowledging your fears, you can garner the courage to press on despite them. Practice and devotion will help you to conquer those fears and create with courage. When you create with courage, you will create more art and better art than you ever have before.
Are you ready?
So…are you ready? Let's make some art!
I get emails all the time asking me where you can buy my book. A fabulous place to buy it is at your local art/stamping/mixed media store. I am a big believer in supporting local business. You can also find it at your local bookstore, the North Light online shop, at the big-box bookstores, etc. If your local store doesn't have my book, ask for it!
AND… I am giving away one signed copy of my new book. Woo hoo!
Simply leave a comment for a chance to win. The rules…ONE comment per person, please. I will draw the winner in a random draw on Thursday, Nov 6th.
Interrupting the art for a bit to mention that our home is for sale! It's in Glendale, AZ, near the Arrowhead area. If you're interested in more details, contact Lorraine Hollingsworth at HomeSmart Realty, 602.330.5972, phxhollingsworth@gmail.com.

Fun to mess around with the vaseline technique!
What I do is start with some sort of background. Then I wipe some vaseline onto the page in a few areas. Then I paint over the vaseline carefully. You need to overlap the paint layer from the vaseline to the plain paper. Let the paint dry. When it's dry, wipe off the vaseline (the paint over the vaseline won't be dry, so you can wipe it away). Fun. Love the grungy effect you can get.
What's on the page: Dina Wakley media acrylic and vaseline.
Grabbed a china marker for this one instead of my trusty and loved Stabilo All pencil. Gives a similar look without the water solubility. Still isn't permanent, though…will rub off easily.
If I write it down, will it make it so?
What's on the page: Dina Wakley Media acrylics, Stabilo All pencil, Dylusions inks, collage image, Neocolor II crayons.
When I was journaling, I was working organically through four different journals. I came to a half-done page and started painting over it…you can see parts of the half-done page underneath the vine.
Is it done now? Who knows.
What's on the page: Dina Wakley Media acrylics, Dylusions inks, Stabilo All pencil, Stickles, tag.
