Teaching at Masterful Scrapbook Design this month…

I've sung the praises of Debbie Hodge and her Masterful Scrapbook Design series before…if you're not subscribing, you are truly missing out. Debbie is brilliant at revealing how scrapbooking works, about how to make pages that sing and resonate. She dissects the *process* of scrapbooking and makes it accessible to all. This month the focus is Photos…join us!

A chance to help a good cause…

The super sweet & cute & talented Shimelle Laine is donating all moolah from class sales today to Plan-UK–a charity that helps young girls get a chance to go to school and get an education. Check it out here…as well as 5 ideas for scrapping girl power (see peek below from her blog)!

I am home….

I am finally home from my teaching trip the UK and Spain. Feels *so* good to be home. I can't even tell you how happy I am. So happy to hug my boys. I missed them intensely.

I know I dropped off on the blog posting…and there are reasons for it. To summarize what I've neglected, let's turn to the technical writer's favorite tool, the bulleted list:

  • Taught awesome students at Scrap-A-Mia in this beautiful location:

  • Stayed in Kent, UK with Jane Dean…saw the medeival town of Canterbury and went to France for a day through the channel tunnel.

  • Enjoyed beautiful Spain where I did lots of sightseeing and taught more awesome students at Bambola Casa Creativa.

  • While I was gone, our home was robbed. My oldest fella came home from school & saw the studio was trashed, the window broken, computers gone. The thieves took anything of value…very violating. It's just stuff, and I don't care about the stuff. Stuff can be replaced. But it's horrible to think people were in my home (and there for a long time because they scoured the house, went into bedrooms, dumped drawers, etc). We were all very rattled, and now I am home & we're handling it all. It's putting me behind on deadlines, but c'est la vie. I look at pictures of Joplin and other areas that have been devastated by tornadoes and realize that this robbery really nothing in the grand scheme of things. People there have lost literally everything…some have lost loved ones, the most precious thing of all. My thoughts and prayers go out to the affected families.

A windy & fun day at Fountains Abbey in Yorkshire…

My friend Su whisked me away in her convertible MR2 through the Yorkshire countryside to Fountains Abbey. The day was sometimes sunny, sometimes cloudy, sometimes rainy, and all the time windy…but we had such a great time chatting and laughing and exploring. The abbey was absolutely fantastic (I took over 300 pictures!). It is in a stunning setting…nestled in a little valley next to a river that feeds into a lake.

We met a lovely young man named John Michael who we recruited to take this shot for us (the sign says "Prison"…we thought it was funny). John Michael turned out to be a BYU student (go Cougars!) on a Study Abroad trip. What a small world!

This shot has mega lens flare, but that's why I like it:

More fun with the Stabilo Pencil and the Brush-tip Pitt Pen…

Gosh, that Stabilo Marks All pencil is so dang fun. We used it in one of my Harrogate workshops, and I think the class enjoyed it. It makes even kindergarten doodling seem artsy & cool.

Not every page has to be a masterpiece…

Not every page has to be a masterpiece…nor should it, really. That idea goes contrary to what art journaling is all about (playing, expressing, creating, experimenting).

For these pages I made some backgrounds & loved 'em. But I didn't really create anything wonderful to go on top…just wasn't in the mood. The hearts are leftover from a previous project. I really just needed to write down some thoughts, so that's what was important here. What a fun process art journlaing is! I love it, truly do.

Looks a bit like "Day of the Triffids," no? lol!

Harrogate goodness…

I'm in one of my favorite places…England. I lived near King's Lynn for 3 years when I was a kid, and there's so much about England that feels like home to me.

Look at the lovely green & lilacs…we just don't get greens this color in AZ.

Here is the amazing & awesome Dyan getting set up for our 3 days of workshops at Art from the Heart:

Students showing off their Day 1 project. I have to say that the students made AMAZING journals over the three days. I even hate to call them students, because that implies they don't know what they're doing. Really they are artists who came to create with me for 3 days. So fun!

The sweet and funny Su gave me a little tour of Knaresborough in her hubby's MR2 convertible…the sun was going down so we were zipping around to get photos. Isn't it truly beautiful? And there's a ruin of a 12th-century castle.

Next I head down to Southampton to teach at Scrap-a-Mia! I've done a bit of journlaing…look for those posts in the coming days.

And I want to publicly state that I have only eaten TWO Curly Wurly bars (so far….heh).

The May JBS kit is lovely…

How can you go wrong with grey, teal, and yellow? Such an easy kit to work with! You need one!
